Student Health Services

Student Health Services provides basic care for acute and chronic problems, promotes health awareness, educates students about preventive care, disease management, and therapeutic choices, and helps students develop the skills to manage their own health.

The student health fee, assessed on students’ tuition and fees, gains access to the services and resources the Student Health ServicesCenter provides. The student health fee is not health insurance. The fee covers basic medical services at the Student Health Center, mental health support at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) (SSB 208), and health education programming from Health Promotion & Wellness.

Do I Need Health Insurance?

Yes. Health insurance is mandated by the federal government. You do not need health insurance to access services at the campus health center but it’s important for when you need to access services off-campus (on weekends, off-hours and for specialty or emergency care).

Once Your Register for Classes...

After you have registered for classes during your orientation session, a bill will be generated for your student account.

If you do not pay fees by the deadline, you will be dropped from all your classes and will need to register again. Your account balance will be updated within 24 hours of enrolling in courses and can be found in your Student Center. Tuition is based on the number of enrolled units so California resident students pay full-time fees if enrolled in 6.1 units or more and part-time fees if enrolled in six units or less.

Online Payment Plans

The payment plan is an opportunity for new students to pay for Fall or Spring tuition in three monthly installments rather than in one lump sum. Sign up via your Student Center account. The installment plan is applied immediately to your account (as long as there are tuition fees posted).

Note: Installment Payment Plans are ONLY available during the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters and have a set list of predetermined dates that cannot be modified or adjusted.

Note: If you are expecting financial aid disbursement or any type of refund from excess aid, students should enroll in direct deposit by accessing their financial information via the Student Center portal.

FAQ

How Financial Aid Works

We understand that applying for and receiving financial aid can be an overwhelming process. Therefore, we offer this quick links to get a better understanding of how financial aid works at San Francisco State University.

Anticipated Financial Aid & Aid Types

If you have anticipated financial aid, your tuition and fee payments will be deferred until financial aid is disbursed. If the aid does not cover the entire balance, you are responsible for paying the remaining balance by the deadline based on when you enrolled. To ensure your financial aid will disburse, verify the following:

  • You have accepted your awards (view/accept your awards in your Student Center)

  • There are no financial aid related items on your Holds/To-Do List sections in Student Center

  • You are enrolled in the correct amount of units (full-time is 12 or more units)

The first disbursement of the semester will be one week before school starts.

Subsequent disbursements occur once a week throughout the semester, and you will only receive a disbursement if there is any remaining aid left over for that semester. For additional information, contact financial aid.
